CLAUSS BLUE STEEL STRAIGHT RAZOR

CLAUSS BLUE STEEL STRAIGHT RAZOR
try it you might like it

What you're looking at is a Clauss Blue Steel straight razor, made for
the Union Barber Supply Company in Baltimore Maryland.  The scales are in
excellent condition showing no cracks, chips or ware.  As you can see in the
pictures this great collectible was made for the Union Barber's Supply company
in the late 1800s.  The razors' tang has jimps on one side only and are
in very good clean condition.  The blade is 3" in length and 4/8" wide the
entire length including the handle is 9 1/2".  The blade itself shines as if
new with one very small blemish close to the end of one side of the blade,
pouring which I believe can be buffed out.  Other than that the razor is in excellent condition.  Also included is the box that came in, the writing is still
legible even though the box is some vintage ware.

History:
Clauss Shear, founded in 1877 by John and Henrie Clauss, of German origin,
in Elyria, Ohio, moved the company to Fremont ten years later. Schaaf,
perhaps the owner of Schaaf's Good Cutlery, and Harry Zimmerman bought out
the interests of their three Henkel Company partners, Dr. George Zimmerman,
August Henkel, and Frank Kiser. The five men had founded Henkel in 1906. In
1919, Henkel Company merged with Clauss Shear to become the largest cutlery
company in the world.

In 1954 the corporate name was changed to Clauss Cutlery Company to
eliminate the confusion with the German cutlery firm J.A. Henckels.
In 1967 Clauss was taken over by Alco Standard Corporation.
In May 2004, Acme United Corporation acquired the Clauss inventory,
trademarks and brand names for approximately $500,000.
